Good news, Idol fans. Jessica Sanchez, the runner-up from season 11 of American Idol, announced that she has signed with Interscope Records with her debut album expected to be released in October. Don’t be surprised if the sound and style of her album break out of the cookie cutter image portrayed on the show. Sanchez has reportedly traded in her power-house ballads for a more contemporary R&B sound and even mentions incorporating some recently learned dance moves into her performances.

Jessica’s music style is the only thing that is changing in the Idol community. Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler both announced this week that they will not be returning to the show next season. So who will replace these star-powered judges? Nothing has been finalized yet but names such as Celine Dion, Carrie Underwood, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige and Miley Cyrus have been churning in the gossip mill. Only time will tell who has ultimately been selected, but one thing’s for sure – American idol continues to reinvent itself to appeal to its audience so we can rest assured that the new judges will have something new and fresh to offer the viewers and contestants.

Last but certainly not least, America’s favorite idol, Philip Phillips is recovering from kidney stone surgery while recording his upcoming debut album which is set to be released in November. “I’m hoping I’m going to be able to at least write on every song for the album, ’cause it’s hard for me to connect with a song I had nothing to do with,” Phillips said. “Hopefully I’ll get to write half of a song with other writers.”
