Another film production of a Broadway musical is in the works and the cast has been finalized with the last two stars joining the all-star lineup. After auditions, Taylor Swift has been offered the coveted part of Eponine and Amy Seyfried recently accepted the role of Cosette.
Joining them will be:
- Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean
- Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert
- Anne Hathaway as Fantine
- Eddie Redmayne as Marius
- Aaron Tviet as Enjolras
- Sacha Baron Cohen & Helena Bonham as the Thenardiers
The film adaptation of the Broadway favorite is going to be directed by the award winning Tom Hooper who is best known for his film “A King’s Speech.” Production for the film will begin in February 2012 and the release date has not been announced.
Broadway purists are already boycotting the film after the announcement of Taylor Swift in the role, but many are saying that the country-pop star nailed her audition so well she beat out other leading ladies like Scarlett Johansson and Broadway veteran, Lea Michelle.
From Live Stage to Silver Screen
There are a number of other popular Broadway musicals that have been produced into successful film adaptations.
- Chicago
- Hairspray
- Grease
- Rent
- Dreamgirls
- Mamma Mia!
There were also others that flopped. Hopefully Hopper’s adaption of Les Miserables will do the masterpiece some justice.
For those who prefer the stage, many of these plays still show at theaters all over the world and of course on Broadway. To buy the best tickets for the theater, visit Dynamic Tickets!
