Tonight, ‘Mary Poppins’ will perform its 2,213th show on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre. The significance? Friday’s performance will make the musical the 28thlongest-running show in Broadway history.

Mary Poppins made its Broadway debut on November 16, 2006. Today, Disney’s classical story about the magical nanny who stole the hearts of kids is getting ready to leapfrog ‘Oklahoma!’, en route to a long haul of many more successful performances. This feat comes after the news that the creator of the score for ‘Mary Poppins’, Robert Sherman, passed away at 86 years.

Robert Sherman is credited with writing one of the show’s most popular songs, ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ – a song that reminds fans of Mary Poppins’ memorable adventures with each new listen. Among other Disney classics, Sherman also wrote another favorite in ‘Chim Chim Cher-ee’ and one of the most played songs of all-time, ‘It’s a Small World (After All)’.

Today, the Broadway musical has been as spectacular as the 1964 Disney film. Children and adults alike have had nothing but praise for the show as audiences have fallen in love with Steffanie Leigh’s graceful role as Mary Poppins. After a successful North American tour, Leigh has been stunning audiences at the New Amsterdam Theatre on 42nd street. Joined by Tony Award nominee, Gavin Lee, who plays Mary Poppins’ cheery chimney sweep, Bert, the cast of Mary Poppins will continue to reflect the brilliance of the book and film on Broadway – reminding us that ‘anything can happen if you let it.’

Mary Poppins tickets are available for tomorrow night’s show.
