Nostalgia will be running through the air as all ages will be reminded of their childhood and rethink the possibility of never growing up.

Peter and the Starcatcher will be played at Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street). Previews of this show begin on March 28th with the official opening date being April 15th.

Complete with a great cast, Peter and the Starcatcher has great direction in their directors Roger Rees (Tony Award Winner) and Alex Timbers (Tony Award Nominee). The play is written by Rick Elice (Tony Award Nominee) who wrote the critically acclaimed musical, Jersey Boys.

Tonight, ‘Mary Poppins’ will perform its 2,213th show on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre. The significance? Friday’s performance will make the musical the 28thlongest-running show in Broadway history.

Mary Poppins made its Broadway debut on November 16, 2006. Today, Disney’s classical story about the magical nanny who stole the hearts of kids is getting ready to leapfrog ‘Oklahoma!’, en route to a long haul of many more successful performances. This feat comes after the news that the creator of the score for ‘Mary Poppins’, Robert Sherman, passed away at 86 years.

Robert Sherman is credited with writing one of the show’s most popular songs, ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ – a song that reminds fans of Mary Poppins’ memorable adventures with each new listen. Among other Disney classics, Sherman also wrote another favorite in ‘Chim Chim Cher-ee’ and one of the most played songs of all-time, ‘It’s a Small World (After All)’.

Today, the Broadway musical has been as spectacular as the 1964 Disney film. Children and adults alike have had nothing but praise for the show as audiences have fallen in love with Steffanie Leigh’s graceful role as Mary Poppins. After a successful North American tour, Leigh has been stunning audiences at the New Amsterdam Theatre on 42nd street. Joined by Tony Award nominee, Gavin Lee, who plays Mary Poppins’ cheery chimney sweep, Bert, the cast of Mary Poppins will continue to reflect the brilliance of the book and film on Broadway – reminding us that ‘anything can happen if you let it.’

Mary Poppins tickets are available for tomorrow night’s show.

The 1992 Disney movie, Newsies, starring the now A-Lister Christian Bale will be hitting the stage this March for a limited 101 show run.

newsies Newsies Coming to Broadway this Month!!

Newsies is based on the real-life newsboy strike of 1899 in New York City. According to press notes, the premise is described as a, “rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged ‘newsies,’ who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what’s right.”

Newsies has music and dancing lead by some of the top names in show business. The 8-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, composes the featured score in the musical. The director of this film is the choreographer from movies such as Dirty Dancing and High School Musical, Kenny Ortega.

This production will bring back a great deal of nostalgia for the 80s and early 90s babies who grew up on this great film, so to see it come to life will be magical even to 20 and 30 year olds. However, this is a musical that all ages will love as it brings together exquisite dance and singing performances with a great underlying, inspiring story.

I don’t think I’m alone in asking what is there to do on Sundays now with the NFL season over and done with until September. Believe it or not, there are still countless events going on throughout the country that will keep us entertained until the shoulder pads clash again.

There is no hotter ticket in the sports world today than that of the New York Knicks. Jeremy Lin has sparked this team, the city of New York, and even the country with his incredible career starting playing ability.

linsanity 300x550 custom How Linvincible is the Linsanity? What many are calling “Linsanity,” is not only bringing in 6 straight wins for the Knicks and filling both home and away arenas with fans because of his presence, but even the company that owns the Knicks’ stock price is at an all-time high! That’s right; a single player is creating a shift in the stock market from his averages of 27 points and almost 9 assists per game over the last five games. (The first 5 starts of his NBA career)

He is a phenomenon, not only because of his outstanding basketball skills, but the story behind him is great as well. He is the first American-born player of Taiwanese or Chinese decent to play in the NBA. He’s no dummy coming out of Harvard, however, undrafted. He went on to get cut by both the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets before getting his chance, due to team injuries, to play.

It will be very interesting to see in the coming days how Jeremy Lin will continue to affect the game with the return of superstars Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony.

Outside of fans, not many were forecasting a NY Giants win in this playoff game against last year’s Super Bowl champs. The Green Bay Packers boasted an impressive 15-1 season while the Giants barely made it with a 9-7 record.

Once in the playoffs though the Giants proved that they deserved a shot and reminded everyone that they are also a championship team that has what it takes.

Giants fans can breathe easy once again now that Eli Manning is back to practice. It was reported yesterday that Manning was missing due to a bug. With the game in just a few days, many were speculating with the quarterback would be back and able to play his fullest.

It was announced Thursday, that after one day of rest, Eli Manning was back and ready to practice. Missing this past Wednesday’s practice was the first practice Manning has missed all season. The “stomach bug” has settled and backup quarterback Carr won’t be taking the field on Sunday’s game after all.

New York Giants Rivalry against the San Francisco 49ers

One of the most legendary interdivision rivalries is between the New York Giants and the San Francisco 49ers. This rivalry dates back to the 1980s when the Giants first met the 49ers in 1981. Since that game, the two teams have met in the playoffs five more times.

This 2012 NFC Championship game is a rematch to the 1990 game where the Giants came out triumphant. Keep in mind that the victor in four of the six playoff games between the two teams went on to win the Super Bowl.

The NBA season officially starts this coming Sunday with the Boston Celtics playing the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. The NBA lockout of 2011 was ended after a new collective bargaining agreement was finalized between the players and the owners.

No other opening day in the NBA’s history compares to this one. The rivalry between New York and Boston also adds juice to the basketball excitement. Basketball fans across the country could not have asked for a better present.

Though most of the buzz in the basketball world is around Chicago and Miami, the Celtics and the Knicks are major Eastern Conference contenders.

With Carmelo Anthony, Amar’e Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler leading the team, it will only take time before the trio develops a rhythm and starts packing the heat. The devotion of New York fans to their basketball team, through thick and thin, is also unmatched.

The Celtics have to stand up to criticism about the team’s aging frontline. That along with the Celtic’s flopped attempt to trade Rajon Rondo for Chris Paul has caused some tension. But despite all of this the team is still a top five favorite.

This NBA season is packing 66 games in four months which means that every team should expect to play at least one back-to-back game (especially since some teams need to work around already-scheduled events at sports arenas).

Both the Celtics and the Knicks were victorious in their preseason games. Celtics beat the Raptors 81-73 while the Knicks beat the Nets 88-82.

  • The Orlando Magic charge Oklahoma City to play the OKC Thunders who have the best offensive player in the league, Kevin Durant.
  •  In California, the Clippers are trying to shine with Chris Paul and Blake Griffin against the Golden State Warriors.

the notebook kiss 300x300 Girls across America Swoon as The Notebook Comes to BroadwayNicholas Sparks revealed to CBS that his book turned movie, “The Notebook,” is soon to become a book turned movie turned Broadway musical.

The highly successful romantic novel turned to life on the silver screen with Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in the lead roles. The movie which had a production budget of $29 million grossed over $81 million domestically.

Many of the romance novels written by Nicholas Sparks make for the perfect dramas. Sparks has published 16 novels to date and because his stories often follow the themes of love, death and cancer—such emotional and deep stories have found a real following with many avid and dedicated readers.

The author has sold over 90 million books globally in over 45 different languages.

When asked about the process of making his characters into on-screen and on-stage presences, Sparks said, “The best way that I’ve always found, and it’s what I’ve done in Hollywood or whether it’s working with the publishers that I’ve worked with for a long time is to work with people that you really trust who understand what it’s about and they want to take that and mold it into something new.”

“Obviously,” he continued, “‘The Notebook’ is going to be some sort of musical and a lot of fun to be involved in that process, too,” stated Sparks.

Will Nicholas Sparks be able to recreate the same tear-jerking story on a Broadway stage? Only time will tell. As of right now the production is still under development with no leads as to who will be playing the roles of Noah and Allie.

Surely a number of fans will hope that Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams can rise to the occasion once again. K
